NSP Portal (scholarships.gov.in)

Through NSP, a variety of services are provided, including student application, application receipt, verification, processing, and scholarship disbursement.

Under Digital India, the National Scholarship Portal is considered a Mission Mode Project (MMP). A Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent SMART System is being developed for the purpose of disbursing scholarships to eligible applicants directly into their accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and without leaks.

List of Documents Required For National Scholarships

When applying for a Merit or Means-based Scholarship exceeding Rs. 50,000 per year, the following documents must be uploaded. It is not necessary to upload documents to apply for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships.

  1. Photo of a student.

  2. Form to be provided by the institution for verification

  3. Obtain an income certificate from the State/UT Government’s Competent Authority.

  4. For applicants who are 18 years of age or older, the Community Certificate must be self-certified, while for others it must be certified by their parent/guardian.

  5. Students applying for scholarships under MCM-based schemes should submit a self-attested mark sheet showing a minimum of 50% on their last qualifying examination.

  6. Fee receipt for the ‘current course year’.

  7. A student’s bank account number along with the IFSC code of the bank branch (for Pre Matric Scheme students without their own bank account, parents/guardians may provide their own account information).

  8. Domicile/Residence Certificate.

  9. Students must provide their Aadhaar number and, if Aadhaar is not available, their bonafide school/institute certificate and scanned copies of their bank passbook and their Aadhaar enrolment ID.

  10. A bonafide student certificate from the school or institute, if the school or institute is located in a different state or territory than the applicant’s domicile state or territory.

All Central Sector Scholarship Scheme has been opened from 20 July 2022 through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Eligibility Criteria for NSP Scholarship 2022-23

NSP Pre-Matric Scholarship

  • Scholarships are given to students who have attained at least 50% in their previous final examination and whose parents or guardians have an annual income of less than Rs. 1.00 lakh from all sources.

  • Scope- From class I to class X, the scholarship will cover the cost of studies in a government or private school in India.

  • Scholarships will be available to minority students in Classes I through X.

NSP Post Matric Scholarship

  • Scholarships will be awarded to students who have scored not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination and whose parents/guardians’ income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2.00 lakh per year.

  • Scope- The scholarship will be awarded for studies in a government or private higher secondary school/college/university in India. Furthermore, courses in Polytechnics and other technical and vocational courses will be covered in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centers affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

  • Students studying in Classes XI and XII are eligible for the scholarship. This includes Polytechnics, ITIs, and other courses at this level.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship For Professional & Technical Courses CS

  • Eligibility- Scholarships will be awarded to students with 50% marks or equivalent grades in the previous final examination and whose family income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.50 lakh per year.

  • Scope: State Governments/Union Territory Administrations will select and notify in a transparent manner the recipients who will receive the scholarship for studies in India in Government or private institutions. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses in technical and professional fields will be offered. Course descriptions can be found in Appendix E.

  • The scholarship is available to students who are admitted to a college on the basis of a competitive examination.

Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships Selection Process

For Fresh Applicants Selection Process

Due to the limited number of minority scholarships available each year, a preference system must be established for selection. An applicant’s income certificate must be submitted according to para-11(ii) in order to receive inter-se selection weighting. In cases of equal income, merit is determined by the applicant’s ‘Date of Birth’ (seniors are preferred).

For Renewal Applicants Selection Process

Renewal cases are not subject to merit list generation. In order to receive the scholarship, the renewal applicant must have achieved 50% in the previous year’s examinations (at the same institute and in the same course) and have all authorities (as designated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs) verify his/her application and approve it.

Minority Scholarships Distribution Rule

According to Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) are minority communities. As well as renewal scholarships, five (05) lakh scholarships are targeted for distribution as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships. According to Census 2001 for 2017-18, scholarship funds will be distributed among States/Union Territories based on the population of minorities in those states/union territories, as well as on the basis of Census 2011 (see Appendices A & B) for 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Pre-Matric Rate Of Scholarship

The details of the scheme interventions for 2017-18 to 2019-20 are as under:

In 2017-20, actual financial assistance will be provided to cover admission & course/tuition fees as well as maintenance allowance as indicated below. In 2017-18 through 2019-20, the scheme will be implemented in the following ways:

For M.Phil & Ph.D.*: Rs. 1,200/- per month for Hosteller & Rs. 550/- per month for Day Scholar

* For 10 months in an academic year.

MCM Rate Of Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for the duration of the academic year/course. Furthermore, the maintenance allowance will be paid as a lump sum for the academic year (Rs. 10,000/- for hostelers and Rs. 5,000/- for day scholars).

How To Apply For NSP Scholarships

On the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/, one can apply for fresh or renewal Scholarships under the Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-Based Scholarship Schemes. A link to the Portal is also available on the website of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, www.minorityaffairs.gov.in. To register on the NSP, applicants above 18 years of age are required to submit an online undertaking, while applicants under 18 years of age must have their parents submit an online undertaking.
