National Talent Search Exam 2024

Eligibility Criteria for NTSE 2024

Stage 1 (State Level Examination)

  • The candidate must be a Class X student from any Government or Private school in India.
  • No domicile restriction; candidates from any State/Union Territory are eligible.
  • Open or distance learning students can apply if under 18, not employed, and appearing for Class X board examination for the first time.

Stage 2 (National Level Examination)

  • Only students qualifying in Stage 1 are eligible for Stage 2.
  • Indian students studying abroad in Class X are eligible directly, scoring 60% in the previous year’s annual examination.

NTSE Exam Pattern

To secure the scholarship, candidates must navigate through the following examination pattern:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT): 100 marks, 100 questions, 120 minutes
  • Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) (Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences): 100 marks, 100 questions, 120 minutes

Marking Scheme for NTSE

  • Stage 1: 1 Mark for every correct answer; no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Stage 2: 1 Mark for every correct answer; one-third of marks deducted for incorrect answers; no negative marking for unanswered questions.

Qualifying Marks for NTSE

  • General category: 40% Marks in each paper
  • SC, ST & PH category: 32% Marks in each paper

Reservation Details

  • Scheduled Caste: 15%
  • Scheduled Tribe: 7.5%
  • Person with Disability: 3%

Guidelines for Successful Participation

To ensure successful participation, candidates must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Pursue approved courses in Science, Social Sciences, Engineering, and Medical streams.
  • Maintain good conduct at school and continue higher education.
  • Avoid unexcused absences from school.
  • Be full-time students without employment.
  • Decide on one scholarship scheme if receiving multiple scholarships.
  • Notify NCERT if discontinuing studies or changing educational streams.
  • Clear all subjects in the first attempt; failure in core subjects leads to scholarship cancellation.
  • Follow exam hall rules, including punctuality and no electronic gadgets.
